I live in a small town in Surrey which is very close to a major University. It’s a lovely old building that has been there for hundreds of years. It really adds to the area in terms of beauty and history. Along with that building there are several other local land marks such as the Magna Carta and a War memorial which all add up to the area being really rather nice.

The University!

I have lived in the area for around 25 years in all, in the beginning with my parents and then when I met my wife we decided to buy a house in the area and stay put. You know, lovely historical place and nice a quiet too. We moved to a residential area which was mostly populated by elderly people who obviously took lots of pride in their houses. It didn’t matter if they were Council tenants they still looked after their gardens and wanted to keep everything nice and tidy. Unfortunately over time this has changed, these elderly people have moved on or passed away.

Now, normally you would expect for some of these houses to be bought for rental purposes and some of them to be bought by young families and such like. Well this is where the problems come in!! It seems to me that every house that has ever gone up for sale in my road has been bought by landlords for the express purpose of renting out to students. I mean, seriously, I think that approximately 10 -15 houses have been put up for sale for one reason or another over the last 5 years and EVERY ONE of them has been bought for rental. What does this mean for me and my street, well, it means that for 6-7 months of the year we have bundles and bundles of immature “only just out of short trousers” young adults invade our little town and for the other 5-6 months of the year the place is a ghost town.

More importantly (too me anyway) my street becomes a pass through for, not only the students that temporarily inhabit my road, but also the surrounding streets which are also full up with student lets. These young adults are obviously really excited about enjoying their new found freedom from mum and dad. It seems to me this means one thing….you know where I’m going here don’t you!!! Yep, you’ve guessed it, by consuming copious amounts of alcohol and no doubt drugs. They seem intent on making as much noise as possible, at the most unsuitable hour without any regard for their working neighbours. Pavements seem to be a thing of the past too, as they all seem to think that the middle of the road is the coolest place to walk, again with no regard for other road users. The unsocial behaviour just seems to get worse every year. Every year new set of students turn up who seem to be even more determined to ruin everything around them with absolutely no regard for anyone but themselves and their fun!!

How i see all students

If that wasn’t bad enough the road seems to be going to ruin too, a by product of student housing is messy, poorly maintained dirty houses. Obviously they don’t care about “boring” things like keeping the garden tidy, picking up rubbish and putting the bin away. That’s all too much like hard work and takes away time from sleeping and partying. The landlords of these houses are obviously only interested in keeping the places to a minimum standard of repair. No doubt some sort of legal responsibility.

All in all it isn’t very pleasant to live in my nice little, historical town anymore. So THANKS students, thanks for nothing!!!

Should I post more?

I have really been neglecting this site for a while now and haven’t posted anything of note for ages. Perhaps i should be more active but i really struggle to stay motivated. Recently i have been getting the urge to write a little more, i think it because i spend a lot of my free time reading blogs like WOW and reading perosnal blog sites like Through the eyes of a journalist Both of which i really enjoy and find very inspiring. The problem is i think that i lack the nessary skills to write things that What should i do?people would find interesting. I really want to be able to write interesting stories and keep people coming back but i guess i lack the confidence needed to keep writing.

I suppose i should just write what pops into my mind and see what happens. What do you guys think? Should i just write about what i find interesting and see if people like it? Or should i just give up and leave this site to fester and pass up on another of those potential “i’d really like to have a crack at that” situations?

In the Fringes

I highly recomend popping along and reading this blog. Its written by a lady that suffers from a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which means that all her joints are extremely unstable and can dislocate at anytime. She has several other symptoms that all mean that life can be very tough.

Her blog is very frank and often disturbing and explains how she lives with the condition.

Oh and she plays WoW too :D

Wordpress Upgrade

I have upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress and eveything seems to be fine.

My Troll hunter hit 80 on Saturday morning. I had lots of fun leveling him and he is officialy my favourite toon. I have to say that Blizzard have triumphed with WotLK, the quests are fun and involving and the instances are challanging enough to keep you going back.

Anyway here are some screenshots of my journey from 70-80 in the x-pac.

I was very sad to hear that one of my great mates in World Of Warcraft had died following a tragic accident. Beauvine was a friendly, happy and funny guy and one of the few people in the game that i really considered a friend.
